Pyramid
The First American
RRR00005
The First American, the debut full-length release from NC based Pyramid, was self-produced at Sioux Sioux Studios. Most initial tracking was done with an emphasis on capturing the live feel, incorporating a wide variety of instruments including guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums as well as theremin, violin, cello, and horns to achieve a sort of Southern Gothic sound; a blend of organic instrumentation, largely traditional songwriting, and controlled chaos. After initial tracking was recorded, overdubs were embellished and thoroughly explored. Experimentation was key. Mastering was done by Dave Harris at Studio B also in Charlotte.
"The eight-member ensemble embeds simple, acoustic folk songs into a complex sprawl of wind and stringed instruments, keyboards, squalling, dissonant feedback and shimmering silence. If this reads like some grand concept from Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, that's not far off base."
- Mark Kemp, The Charlotte Observer
"...the music, like most memorable recordings, transcends time and place. This is more than simply a great record; in its own way it can redefine how we hear music. And a record wielding that kind of power deserves our highest praise" Rating: 5 out of 5
